Have you ever started with a single project that grew into something bigger?

I started this project because of requests from parents at my home-school co-operative where I teach classes. Four years ago, it began as a list of a 100 prompts for summer writing, and then it grew each year in a messy jumble of prompts. I discovered I liked them out of order, not in line with a season or theme, because they prompted my studnets to think outside the box.

IWSG: Making up my Mind

Insecurity this month: Making up my mind.

Seriously, I have written three four IWSG posts in the last week. And then, erased them and started over again.

I can't seem to make up my mind about blog posts these days.

It seems like there's a trend (or at least I've been reading the posts within this trend) of questioning/analyzing blog post content and making some changes.

I think that taking stock and making changes when they are needed is good.

I just can't seem to make up my mind about which changes need to happen, and how I'm going to put them into action.

However, there is a call to action that has stirred up a fire in me recently.

C. Lee Mckenzie of The Write Game brought attention to a literacy campaign that she started on twitter, and then this forced me to take a good look at illiteracy statistics in the United States.

32 million adults in the USA can't read?! Whoa. How did I miss that? What can I/we do about it?

I haven't made up my mind on every action idea swirling around in my very small brain (feeling like Winnie the Pooh in a muddle), but I can advocate literacy as a start.

Would you be willing to do that too?

A Hobbit Birthday and some Dragonfold fireworks!

"Bilbo met the guests (and additions) at the new white gate in person. He gave away presents to all and sundry - the latter were those who went out again by a back way and came in again by the gate. Hobbits give presents to other people on their own birthdays. Not very expensive ones, as a rule, and not so lavishly as on this occasion; but it was not a bad system." (The Fellowship of the Ring, Ch.1)

When I read this as a first time as a kid, I was enchanted by the idea. I wasn't sure if I would want to put it into practice. I mean, I was 11, and I didn't exactly want to give up getting presents on my birthday, but I thought it could be a fun way to celebrate.

So . . . since I'm a bit older now, I thought I would celebrate my birthday a bit like a hobbit.
(I still got a present from my family - a new bike with 21 speeds, and an extra ultra granny gear for keeping up with my husband on the 8% grade hills!)
