Most years, I do a gratitude project in November. This year is a little different. I'm not going to do daily posts. I'll be random.
In fact...
There are no rules. Big things, little things, silly things, serious things. I can repeat myself. I can be thankful for something extraordinary or something wonderfully ordinary.
And I'd love for you to join me!
Share one thing or ten. Whatever comes to mind.
Today, I'm thankful for:
1. A stretching video on Instagram. I watched it this morning and tried a couple of stretches that were either new to me or that I'd forgotten about. Sometimes a little reminder is exactly what I need.
2. My blue pen. It's the pen I've been using in my journal.
3. My stove. Especially when the water boils quickly and I can make a warm bowl of protein oatmeal.
4. My phone. Yes, it can be a distraction, but it's also an incredibly useful little tool, and I'm grateful for what it allows me to do.
5. The pastors at my father-in-law's church. They spent time with our family on Saturday, listening, caring, and sharing in our love for Mary, my mother-in-law, who passed away that morning. Their kindness meant so much.
6. Pastor Peter. My former pastor, whose kindness, care, and hard work helped make my dad's memorial service in early October so meaningful.
7. The people who have surrounded our family with love. Cards, prayers, flowers, offers of help, visits with my mom, and countless acts of kindness. Every gesture has mattered.
8. Special spoons. Yes, spoons! My dad had a special spoon, and recently, while visiting a friend, I discovered her daughter had one too. I even wrote a poem about special spoons. Isn't it wonderful that there are special spoons in the world?
9. A friend who invited me to the movies. I'm thankful for invitations, shared experiences, and the simple joy of friendship.
10. My mom's friends. Some of her friends joined us for lunch on Sunday. I'm grateful for people who make time to gather, share a meal, and enjoy one another's company. Friendship is beautiful.
11. Our new pastor. I'm thankful for the caring and loving spirit he's already bringing to our church. His kindness toward our whole congregation, and especially toward my family during this difficult season, has been such a gift.
12. Phone calls with my daughters. I love their voices. And, I also love being on the phone when my older daughter and my grandson are in the car, so I can talk to both of them - even if he is generally saying, "babababall" or some such.
13. I'm excited that my husband and I are going to Author Nation. Yep. Despite all the sorrow, we are still living. And we are going to a wedding in Vegas, then working capture crew at the conference, and then, I'll be selling books at Reader Nation. Woohoo.
14. The work I'm doing on the Dark Blade Trilogy Kickstarter Fulfillment. Yes, it's a bit delayed. But it is moving forward.
Some days, gratitude looks like remembering the people we love. Other days, it's a good pen, a warm breakfast, a special spoon, or friends who show up.
What are you thankful for today?
You can share something big, something small, or something wonderfully silly. All gratitude is welcome.
No rules. No pressure. Just noticing the good.
