Quotes on Writing, Faith and sometimes Life 2

"I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again."
Oscar Wilde

"Praise be to the Lord,
for he has heard my cry for mercy."
Psalm 28:6

In the midst of polishing Champion in the Darkness, I totally get the Wilde quote. It's something I've done before with my poetry, and now . . .I'm experiencing it on the next level with my novel. (except I'm tempted to take out a chapter and then put it back).

Hope your writing week goes awesome!!!!

I totally get Wilde's quote too! Actually just did that last night while writing Monday's blog post. :)

Have a great week!

Boy do I ever get Wilde's quote. Story of my life.

Getting your manuscript in the hands of other readers can help a lot, especially when you're on the fence about whether or not an entire chapter works.

Karen - Have a great week!

Laurel - I agree! Thankfully, my betas (mostly family) are waiting eagerly to pounce on the latest edition of Champion . .. I'm just a few days away of letting them read it again.

I hate it when I fall into that endless loop of editing where I change something and then change it back. I think it's a sign that things are nearly as done as you can make them on your own.

L.G. - Good! I hope I'm close to that!

That made me laugh! That's when I know I'm done editing - when I start changing it back to the way it was in the beginning.

That's an awesome quote! So true. Basically it's all I've been doing here.

Heehee. Love the quotes! Best of luck with the editing.

I so understand. I started the final read-thru for my next release and spent hours and hours hating on chapter one yesterday. I hope I finally fixed it. Siiigh. My husband calls it my writer OCD stage.

Thanks for the mention, Tyrean. You are soooo sweet!

And yeah, I'd have to say that when you're down to taking out and putting back in the same bits and pieces, it's time to step away from the manuscript for more than a day and let it marinate, come back to it with fresher eyes.

Alex - Glad to make you laugh! I feel like I'm almost done . .

Rose - Thanks! I hope you get to the next step of revision . . .or publication!

Angie - Thanks!!!

M Pax - oh, I know the chapter hating stage . . .there's this one chapter in Champion that is on the "fix or die/cut" list.

Angela - Good idea. Marinating and rest!

Tyrean, I find myself doing the same thing with commas and other editing! Then go back again and wonder what I was thinking!

Thanks for the shout-out!

I love the Osacr Wilde quote! It's always difficult to decide if something should go or not, isn't it?? Good luck with the edit!

Oscar Wilde... gotta love him... he's one of my favourite smart people...
Happy writing & editing!

Wilde's quote is so true! I change something, then go back and change it again. Why do we drive ourselves crazy with such things? We should trust our instincts and leave it how we wrote it the first time (so long as it was grammatically correct).

Tyrean Martinson said...

Gwen - you're welcome!!!

Pat - Thanks!

michelle - thanks!

Emily - I agree . . .well, except when I'm going OCD with editing.
