Tara Tyler with 5 Reasons to Write with Talk-to-Text

Please welcome guest Tara Tyler for Top 5 Reasons to Write with Talk-toText

talk-to-text

I am dictating this entire post on my phone. when I first saw/heard someone talking to their phone I thought they were absurd. how silly for someone to talk text messages into their phone. but since I am a terrible Texter, not nearly fast enough for my tech savvy family, I gave it a try. now I love it. So here are my top five reasons for talk to text...
  1. it's quick and easy.
  2. I can send myself a note about a change in schedule or something I need at the store or a new story idea.
  3. I can leave a more detailed text.
  4. it can be funny when it gets your words wrong - I guess that's good or bad but my youngest son and I have made a game out of it!
  5. my family also hates it, so it's fun to annoy them.
thanks so much tiring (Tyrean, it has trouble with your unique name, just like my son Jace) for having me over at your place! these top five posts are a lot of fun!

Thank you, Tara!!! I love your thoughts, and the text-messages. I totally get my name thing - one of my cousins has been calling me 'tiring' for years and years (since we were both seven).

That last one is reason enough!
I haven't used it much although I do talk to Siri all the time.

I don't think my phone has this feature. (I still use a flip phone from 2007, LOL.) Based on this list, though, I can see how talk-to-text could be helpful at times!

I love hearing all the mistakes the phones make with words too! I am the last person on the continent without a cell phone. :)

I have a love-hate relationship with my iPhone. I do battle with Siri a lot, but I haven't tried to leave voice messages on the thing yet.

I've never tried it but I'm very slow at texting (I just can't figure out how to type with my thumbs...) so I should probably give it a shot!

Great reasons, Tara! I'd wondered the same thing, why it was such a big thing for so many and all. But now I need to give it a try.:) Thanks so much! Tyrean, thanks for hosting today!

I don't talk to Siri much, but talk to text is helpful sometimes - except when directions in a text message involve "sixth street" - you can imagine how that one works out.

Good for you, Christine! I think the rest of us are too addicted to our phones.

Tyrean said...

We've mainly used talk-to-text for text messages - which is humorous.

I struggle with texting, too. My daughters snicker at me.

Thanks for stopping by, Karen!!!

I have never tried this yet. I imagine there will be a lot of UHS and UMS.

I don't use this feature, but I know people who do who don't type fast. It's a great tool to help people get into texting, which I love for its convenience.

I do use this feature when I'm driving, but sometimes the translator getting things so badly messed up, I have to start all over again.

Tyrean Martinson said...

I love the convenience, too.

I know what you mean. :)

You had me at quick and easy:) Plus, its good for me who finds it hard to write down quick ideas. Thanks for sharing your tip.

Haven't tried this - it probably would get loads of words wrong, but then who knows if that would spark off a whole other idea!

i cant get used to talking to siri - but my youngest son loves speaking every command!

Tara Tyler said...

aww, i remember my old flip phone! i loved it! i resist every upgrade and take all my hub's old hand-me-down phones =)

Tara Tyler said...

they're so funny - and i can't believe you dont have a cell phone!
cave girl!

i just don't like computer voices - i turn off my gps and just use the maps, it's like siri thinks she's so smart, but she's too frustrating!

Tara Tyler said...

my fingers and thumbs are all thumbs and too fat! i will never do the thumb texting, ack!

Tara Tyler said...

it's strange at first and i don't like to do it in public, but it's definitely easier and faster than hunt and peck! thanks for stopping by!

the funny part is when i'm in the middle of a text and i have to yell at the dog or something - hilarious!

Tara Tyler said...

yep! very useful indeed.

Tara Tyler said...

i've had that happen too - editing is necessary sometimes, but it's great especially for a long thought!

Tara Tyler said...

i love expressing ideas on my notes feature - then i can email myself and it's already typed!

Tara Tyler said...

speaking clearly helps, but i still get surprised by some of the interpretations my phone comes up with!

tyrean - thanks so much for having me!! great comments and it was so fun to write this post!

I haven't tried it at all. Years ago, I bought myself a Dictaphone (complete with tiny little tape cassettes) but didn't use it much, because I have to type it up later anyway. I wonder if I ought to, though - after a heavy weights session at the gym my hands are usually not up to the task of typing!!

Crystal Collier said...

LOL! I've been using that feature and I'm too paranoid to use it if someone else is in the room--but while driving? That's the most epic way to send a message.

Funny. :)

I'm such a quiet person, I can't imagine talking that much. I've heard others claim it boosts their productivity.

Anything that sneaks in more writing is a great thing.
