Tyrean, I found this so helpful that I bookmarked it. I like your "dress the part" suggestion. I write for preteens and like to dress casual and look approachable. Or maybe I'm lazy?
I couldn't find a place to comment at Milo's. It was probably obvious but oh well. Excellent post. Not hoity toity at all. Goodness, I wish I'd have thought to memorize the blurb. People think telling an agent or editor what their book is about has never looked a buyer in the eye. At least pros hide their distaste for rambling explanations!
No, you are dressing for your audience, and that's not lazy, it's smart! :)
It's really hard to sum up a book in a sentence or two and make it sound exciting, but memorizing little bits of description help a little bit. :)
