I think of Stan Lee as this legendary guy at Marvel comics, and I guess I always thought he must have started out with a vision and confidence, but it seems that he didn't start out like that. He fell into his role as a comic book writer, and thought of quitting it to write "the Great American novel."
Aren't we all glad that he decided to continue writing "these little stories with drawings in them?" (Stan Lee, describing his own work in the same interview)
I know I am.
Although I don't know if my writing will ever be read by such a widespread audience as Marvel fans, I hope that my own little stories, will give someone a little bit of relief in the middle of a tough life.
Why do you write? And do you ever feel apologetic for it?

I write because it's just what I do, you know? I don't generally feel apologetic over it, but have apologized on occasion when I should be focused on other things or people, and my mind won't let the writing go.

I understand that part about the writing not letting go - sometimes my kids have tried to talk to me and I'm still in story-land. I have to decide to get back into the real world when my brain has been "on" fiction.

I feel that way most of the time. I love writing and enjoy when I can share it, but there's this voice inside that says I just don't measure up. I keep trying to kill that voice - but some entities just won't die! :)

Why would ANY author apologize for writing. That thought is inconceivable to me. Writing has and always will be part of our culture. We need story telling desperately. WE learn to read from being read to as young children. Why apologize...

The only time I'm apologetic about my writing is when I hand early drafts to my crit partners. That's when I feel sorry for them. :)

I write because what else am I supposed to do with these crazy ideas? And I read because I love the way writers can draw me in emotionally with their characters.
Blogging never fails to be time-consuming, so I'm not surprised you're cutting back on posts. A 2x-a-month schedule definitely seems more manageable!

I sent out a tweet. I really like that quote from Stan Lee. It's way to easy to apologize for what you write, but we shouldn't act that way. What we've written will mean something to someone other than ourselves, and we take away from that when we apologize for our work.

I've always loved writing by hand. It gives me great joy!! Writing to pen-pals as a teen started my writing journey...fiction writing is a very recent addition.
...and I love the adrenaline rush of writing FF...
