Insecurity/plea for help:
Champion's Destiny is partly out "there" but hasn't gone wide release yet for e-book. So, if you would like to help me celebrate, please consider either joining my thunderclap campaign or doing a mini-blast (self-run).

A mini-blast looks like this:

The Battle May be Lost because of a Family Secret - Champion's Destiny by Tyrean Martinson is   until Feb. 12th.

It's tweetable like this:

The Battle May be Lost because of a Family Secret - Champion's Destiny is   until Feb. 12th. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0153L2AA8

Blast Away!

In blog plans for the year, I hope to slow my posts to twice a month. However, I would like to host 12 guests - one per month. If you would like to guest post, please contact me at my e-mail address.

Motivation/Support:
"Life is tough for a lot of people. If you can do something that brings someone else just a little bit of relief or pleasure - like telling them a really great story, maybe - that's not a bad thing, right? So, over the years, I've learned to be happy with the work I do, rather than apologetic for it."
-Stan Lee, interview in The Costco Connection.

I think of Stan Lee as this legendary guy at Marvel comics, and I guess I always thought he must have started out with a vision and confidence, but it seems that he didn't start out like that. He fell into his role as a comic book writer, and thought of quitting it to write "the Great American novel."

Aren't we all glad that he decided to continue writing "these little stories with drawings in them?" (Stan Lee, describing his own work in the same interview)

I know I am.

Although I don't know if my writing will ever be read by such a widespread audience as Marvel fans, I hope that my own little stories, will give someone a little bit of relief in the middle of a tough life.

Why do you write? And do you ever feel apologetic for it?

Please help with thunderclap!

I like your blog schedule ideas. I would guest post if you need a spot filled. I can never think of a topic though. :(

Great quote and gosh, yeah Stan Lee makes us happy!

Happy 2016! May it bring all the good stuff. :)

  2. I tweeted, so hopefully that helps! I like your idea of doing guest posts! I could do one at some point if you wanted. Like Shah, I'm not sure what I'd talk about, but it could be fun.

    Happy 2016!

  3. Signing up for your Thunderclap as soon as I comment.

Imagine if Stan Lee had quit to write that novel?

      And, I know . . . Marvel just wouldn't be the same.

  5. I write because it's just what I do, you know? I don't generally feel apologetic over it, but have apologized on occasion when I should be focused on other things or people, and my mind won't let the writing go.

    Congrats on Champion's Destiny!!

    1. I understand that part about the writing not letting go - sometimes my kids have tried to talk to me and I'm still in story-land. I have to decide to get back into the real world when my brain has been "on" fiction.

      Thank you!

  7. No apologies here. (On board for the Thunder!) Life is about living, and we may as well do it in the few short years we have. Write to win!

  11. I love Stan Lee's quote! We could all learn from it. I need to get over feeling apologetic. It's that self-effacing English thing. I'll be happy to help out with the thunderclap.

    1. Thank you, Nick!
And yes, we could all learn from it. Believe it or not, some of us Americans do that self-effacing thing, too.

  14. I feel that way most of the time. I love writing and enjoy when I can share it, but there's this voice inside that says I just don't measure up. I keep trying to kill that voice - but some entities just won't die! :)
Thanks for that information and quote about Stan Lee, very inspiring!
    Happy New Year!

  15. Hi, Tyrean,

Why would ANY author apologize for writing. That thought is inconceivable to me. Writing has and always will be part of our culture. We need story telling desperately. WE learn to read from being read to as young children. Why apologize...

CONGRATS on you new book! Wishing you all the best for 2016!

    1. Although I agree with you, Michael, I have definitely felt that insecure fear that what I've written isn't good enough for ____ and then I realize it's just a blank line. :)

      And thank you!

  16. Happy New Year Tyrean!!

I didn't know that about Stan Lee. I love and look forward to those marvel movies.

I supported your Thunderclap! Good Luck!!! And I'd be happy to host you on my blog. Just email or message me on FB!

  17. The only time I'm apologetic about my writing is when I hand early drafts to my crit partners. That's when I feel sorry for them. :)

  19. I write because what else am I supposed to do with these crazy ideas? And I read because I love the way writers can draw me in emotionally with their characters.

  20. Blogging never fails to be time-consuming, so I'm not surprised you're cutting back on posts. A 2x-a-month schedule definitely seems more manageable!

And best of luck with Champion's Destiny! Hope you have lots of success with this release!

  21. So, um, I tried replying to the earlier comment and it won't let me. Fine. I'll start a new one.

Live, Write, Win...Eat Cheese! I think that should be our 2016 motto.

  22. I sent out a tweet. I really like that quote from Stan Lee. It's way to easy to apologize for what you write, but we shouldn't act that way. What we've written will mean something to someone other than ourselves, and we take away from that when we apologize for our work.

Why do I write? Good question.
I've always loved writing by hand. It gives me great joy!! Writing to pen-pals as a teen started my writing journey...fiction writing is a very recent addition.
...and I love the adrenaline rush of writing FF...
