World Building Question for the day: Do you ever find yourself going wild with B-list character and place names?
By B-list, I mean the supporting cast who only have one or two lines of dialogue, or show up once or twice, and then that unexpected third time (when you search through the glossary frantically for their name).

And now for the mini-IWSG

I have plenty of insecurities about my writing, but today, I just want to encourage you to:
Build Dream Castles and then Build Foundations!

"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them." - Henry David Thoreau

  3. Great B names! Bly...I like how Bly sound, unique and simple...so that's my favorite. I know you didn't ask but I feel like over sharing mmkay? lol

And that quote is a great one, I really like it. I'm building lots of foundations right now...and I'm glad the castle belongs in the air because my foundation keeps getting knocked down and rebuilt. :)

    1. Just think, when that foundation gets finished, it's going to be super strong and sturdy!
And you can overshare anytime! Thanks!

  4. I know it's a bad sign when I start liking my B-list people better than main characters. :)

  5. Yes! The story I'm writing now has a much larger cast and some with few lines, and it's been a challenge to remember all of them.

    1. Glad I'm not the only one. Keeping a glossary helps. :)

  6. Love the quote. Yes sometimes I do, and have to go back and see if one can do the job of two or three to thin the herd.

    1. Yes, I try to think the herd too, but then I want the sense of a full world background . . . and it's a dilemma.

  7. I am always trolling for some great "B" names. Nice combo of posts!

  8. I always have to trawl through my notes and find the right name for the right character. It's hard when you have a lot to keep track of.

  9. Great post! :) I'm stopping in from both the A to Z Challenge and the IWSG. I hope you have a fabulous month!

  11. I learned to quit naming everyone if they don't have a recurring role in the story. Waiter will remain waiter. :) Have fun with AtoZ.

  12. Hi Tyrean! Honestly, I don't know what you have to be insecure about; you're a singularly gifted writer! And I have the habit of letting my B-characters go completely mental, basically giving them license to invade and infect the entire work! I always have to go back and hack out lines and even full scenes of the "B Guys" because I fall so much in love with them that I let them tread all over me. What can I say? B Guys are too much fun to write!

    1. I know what you mean. B list characters have this way of making their own stories . . . and I keep thinking that somehow I might use them. :)
And wow! Thanks for your sweet compliments!

  14. Love Bitter and Blythe - what great names for a pair of birds. And this is a quote I need to add to my collection of favorites.

  15. You know, I have done that going wild with the B-list thing. Only to kind of wonder later on why I wasted so much time on that. Great post! If you want to, and have time, you can come check out my B post.
