Endings Blogfest

L.G. Keltner is celebrating her two year blogaversary with the Endings Blogfest!

When I saw this fest, I couldn't resist. Literally, I just feel in love with the art on the blog button, and the idea.
However, due to a cold, waking up late, and getting the kids going on their lessons for the day (we homeschool and breakfast is planning time), I'm a little late to the party. Sorry.
And I have thought over what to say . . . but no idea seemed like the right one, until now.

The endings I like best are the endings with a sense of homecoming and a sense of open horizon - a look to the possible future.

Every ending like that feels like the one described at the end of The Last Battle:

"And for us this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has ever read: which goes on forever, in which every chapter is better than the one before."

What kind of ending do you like?

  2. I'm glad you liked the button design. I'm rather happy with it myself.

I like all kinds of endings, including the open and hopeful kind. Because it's true. The book in our hands might end, but the lives of the characters don't. If you think about it, our lives could all be broken up into novels, chunks of time where certain sets of events happen, but the ending of one part doesn't mean that it's all over.

Thanks for sharing the ending of The Last Battle! That truly is a great ending.

Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

  3. The Last Battle is one of my favorite books, and that ending is terrific!

Now you have me thinking of all the books I've finished with a smile and a happy sigh.

  4. I like an ending that ties in the symbolism of the title and leaves a deep, profound, emotional impact. I hate endings that are just a cliffhanger setting things up for the next book, or meaningless dead-ends that doesn't resolve anything or provide any sense that the story is properly over.

  5. Ooh, what a fun idea for a blogfest! A hopeful kind of end like you described are always fun to read. As for me, it's hard to pick a favorite ending, since it honestly depends on the story, but I must admit, I have a soft spot for the ones that are tragic...

  6. I still haven't read Narnia. Wow, I suck. :)

I kind of like that type of ending as well - and yet it makes me want to read more. ;)

  7. That's a great quote, it sounds like the perfect ending. I like a lot of different types of endings - happy, sad, bittersweet - as long as they do the story justice.

  8. I also love the button design, and that is a fantastic quote. I love when characters are so vivid you can imagine their stories and their lives continuing after the books end.
