I

My theme has been celebrations! All month long, I've celebrated authors and bloggers who have inspired me with their determination, spunk, and style.

Today's Z author: Zan Marie is a sweet, Christian blogger who writes poetry, prose, and fiction. Enjoy the shade of the cherry tree at her blog. :)
And, check out her latest book, An Easter Walk

And now, it's time to celebrate my blogaversary and the end of A to Z 2015 with short "versary" post and a Giveaway!

I started my blog in 2009 (I can't believe it's been that long!) without any knowledge of what I was doing. I didn't research. I didn't know about following or visiting other blogs. I knew nothing.
But, I took the plunge anyway.
I didn't have many followers for a while.
My posts read like some doubt-filled, half-crazed writer's journal with bouts of faith and Bible study.

This is the whole entirety of my first post
Blogging and using facebook are new to me.  I hope that I can explore my writing and create a space is encouraging to writers, Christians, friends and family online.

I'm actually amazed that I had a mission statement.

And, it's still true to today:

I hope to explore my writing and create a space that is encouraging to others.

Somehow, I have followers. I think it's because I learned to visit other bloggers and make comments. :)

Thank you for sharing this journey with me!
I appreciate your comments, your e-mails, your kind words, and your wonderful encouragement.

And now, for the prizes/giveaways:

1. Free Eye Candy for Everyone! It's even calorie free! :)

2. Real Chocolate (Hershey's Milk Chocolate) for the first three continental US visitors with comments and e-mail addresses in the comment boxes.

3. A first page critique for visitor #10 (with comment and e-mail address).

4. Free E-Book Copies of Champion in the Darkness with this Smashwords Coupon which is good only through May 2nd.
Coupon Code: RZ33N

5. My usual freebies:

Happy A to Z Finish!

Celebrate the Small Things: I kind of went for the super-sized celebration a day early! :)

Today, I'm celebrating:

Mary Pax,  a science fiction and fantasy author; a docent at Pine Mountain Observatory in Oregon; a photographer of gangsta cows, tiny ghost towns, and the wonders of the universe; a fan of Jane Austen; and one of the best blogging buddies to have. Once, I asked her a question about marketing, and she answered with a huge file of places to market my work. (I'm still working through that file, too.) She is an excellent writer, an encouraging friend, and I just think she is really cool. :)
She has at least nine books out with more on the way, and several short stories in anthologies and on QuarterReads.

I highly recommend checking out her blog and her books. Plus, the first books in the Backworlds and Rifters series are free!

Today, I'm celebrating:

Michelle Wallace at Writer-in-Transit is a dedicated IWSG blogger and writer who writes excellent short fiction from drabble to flash length, and who loves to play with words! I highly recommend checking our blog for fun, for entertainment, and for some great encouragement!

On Friday and Saturday, I had wild back to back events:
- a podcast interview at the Speculative Fiction Cantina which was recorded and can be found here

- and a book signing at a local bookstore, which was . . . well, customer-less. The bookstore rocked and the ladies there were super sweet and kind, but I didn't sell any books. I would have been completely bummed except I have another book selling event planned for this Saturday . . . so I still feel hopeful. Plus, I took my own advice and rewarded myself afterwards . . . even without book sales. I still had the courage to get out there, so that's the part I'm celebrating.

Today, I'm celebrating:

Yvonne Ventresca -  fellow Muffin Commando, blogger, and writer of non-fiction and fiction work, is fun to visit, and writes excellently informational posts for writers of all ages with a special day for teen writers on Tuesdays which I love to glean for information for teen writers that I know. Yvonne's enthusiasm for giving back to the writing community is beautiful! Check out her blog and her novel, Pandemic.

And, a short bit about the podcast interview from yesterday: host S. Evans Townsend rocked! I love the way he keeps the show moving. Addie J. King, my fellow guest, was really fun to get to know, too. On my part . . . well, I was nervous - even more than I realized, and it came out in the fact that I couldn't seem to talk about my novels coherently, and when I read, I stumbled over my book - even though I had practiced a dozen times. So, I'm glad I did it and I learned a bit about myself: I need to stand up and talk on the phone for a podcast, just like I stand up and talk on the phone normally.

And, if you want to listen to or take part in a speculative fiction podcast, I highly recommend S. Evan Townsend and the Speculative Fiction Cantina!

A to Z: U Celebrations, Celebrate the Small Things, and Do You Have Goals?!

A to Z is here! We're almost to the finish line! Keep up the good work!

I'm part of the Muffin Commando Squad! C. Lee Mckenzie (leader extraordinaire), Carrie ButlerYvonne VentrescaDonna McDinePatricia LynneTara Tyler, andTammy Theriault.

IMy theme is celebrations! All month long, I'll be celebrating authors and bloggers who have inspired me with their determination, spunk, and style. At the end of the month, I'll have a blogaversary celebration with giveaways . . .

Today, I'm celebrating:

Unicorn Bell is an excellent place to find writing, publishing, and marketing tips along with author interviews, and sometimes writing contests. Seven amazing authors keep Unicorn Bell alive and going, and I highly recommend checking out this site for every writer!

Untethered Realms is a site for writers of speculative fiction and for geeks who just love speculative fiction. It's a great place to hang out, read some interesting posts on spec fic fandom and ideas, and get to know thirteen excellent speculative fiction authors.

1. My oldest daughter (always busy) had her first professional (paid) modeling job last weekend. She worked as a hair model at a hair stylist convention - and it included 10-12 hour days of having her hair styled on-stage in various up-dos that would make Princess Leia and Padme envious.

2. Today I have a live interview podcast at Speculative Fiction Cantina! Come join the conversation at:
Central: 5:00 P.M.5:00 P.M.
Mountain: 4:00 P.M.:00 P.M.
Pacific: 3:00 P.M.

3. I have goals. :)

Do You Have Goals? is a blog hop that encourages wild, crazy dream goals!

1. Writing and Write 1 Sub 1: Subbed six new stories to SpeckLit - if you go there, read their submission process carefully. :) Champion's Destiny has been limping along in content revision without much progress. :(

2. Publishing/Marketing:  No new stories published this month.
Had to miss the "all local authors" poetry reading last weekend due to a crazy busy family weekend (we were going four different directions and I decided to be the one that gave up "my" thing to make things work - I also had a huge acne outbreak from eating something I shouldn't and was a bit embarrassed to be seen by anyone I knew - so much better to hang out in a different city).
 Speculative Fiction Cantina interview today!
And, I'm signing books at a local bookstore tomorrow.
Whew.

3. Invitational Attitude: Um. Well, I invited a few people to Gig Harbor Paddle Cup, and I . . . well, I'm not sure what else I did.

4. Spiritual: Prayer, some Bible Study, might finish Leap Over a Wall: Earthy Spirituality for Every Day Christians some time soon - I've been enjoying it too much to rush it.

5. Exercise/Health: Back to walking and riding the exercise bike, but not enough. Bad habits have formed and must be changed.

What or who are you celebrating today?

Please join me for the Speculative Fiction Cantina

And, until then . . . if you would like to watch the Junior and Senior (not Master class) Time Trials for Sprint Canoe and Kayaking, go to this link! It's happening live today in Oklahoma City, and the kids with the yellow jerseys are from my daughters' team!

Check out her blog for humor and writing wisdom/tips. She's also a fun muffin commando!

And, she's written Pop Travel (the first book in the Cooper Chronicles) and Broken Branch Falls. The second book in the Cooper Chronicles, Simulation, will be out this September!

Upcoming news for me: I'll be on a live podcast tomorrow with Speculative Fiction Cantina at 3 p.m. Pacific Time, 4 p.m. Mountain Time, and 5 p.m. Central Time. Not sure when that makes it on East Coast Time? 6 p.m.? Anyway, if you can, please stop by. I'm kind of terrified, but I'm also excited.

Some of her work can be found in Under the Bed Magazine, Of Mist and Magic, Insecure Writer's Support Group Guide to Publishing and Beyond, Tree of Life, Beyond the Binding, and Sunday Snaps: The Stories.
Shannon always reports the latest links for short story submissions for various markets - which is incredibly helpful for short story writers.

Susan Gourley-Kelly is a novelist who writes science fiction and fantasy romance. She also has a wonderful blog to visit, with thought-provoking posts from writing, publishing, marketing, and life. I highly recommend checking out her blog and some of her science fiction romance, starting with these titles: The Warrior and the Biologist, and Marine's Queen. I haven't read any of her fantasy romance, but if the covers are any indication - they might be hotter than I can handle. However, I can say without a doubt, that she is an excellent writer. :)

SK Anthony is a super encouraging blogger with a heart of gold who writes excellent, speculative fiction! She's currently on a blogging hiatus, but I'm hoping she comes back soon! And, I'm hoping to see the second book in her Luminaries soon, too. Here's her first novel: Kinetic.
