Guest Post Tara Tyler Talks Signage! And a few Celebrations

When I picture Tyrean, I see a strong woman knight standing at the top of a mountain with her sword raised and her hair blowing in the wind. (Similar to the main character, Clara in her Champion Series) She's a saint! Thanks for hosting me, girl!
Wow! You are so sweet, Tara! I love hosting you! (Tyrean)

Before I get to the reveal, I'd like to talk about quotes and signage. I love quotes and when I say something witty I like to write it down (ha, don't all writers do that??) Here's my latest:

"My writing is only limited by time (and my other job, gotta pay the bills)"

Another thing writers work on is their signage - what we write when signing books - it's not as easy as you think. Not spur of the moment witticisms, it takes work to come up with a good signing phrase! I usually stick with one standby and change it out for each new release, but I have backups in my notebook too. Here are a few...

Never stop having adventures!

Go beyond expectations!

Make the most of your journey!

Stand up for yourself!

Trust your gut!

Be a problem solver!

I'm coming up with new ones for SIMULATION right now. And I'd love to hear any you have.

Tyrean: Love your signage, Tara! Mine are somewhat book specific:
Shine your light!
Spread your wings and fly!
Write on!

Thanks again, Tyrean for giving me room at your place to share the new POP TRAVEL cover - it's eye-conic! And the re-release has a sneak peek at the first chapter of SIMULATION which comes out Sept 14th!

POP TRAVEL
by Tara Tyler
Re-released July 1, 2015

In 2080, technology has gone too far for private detective J. L. Cooper. He thinks he can avoid pop travel teleportation, until he stumbles onto a video of a pop traveler who turns to dust.

Sparking a series of murders, attempts on his life, and threats to his brother, Cooper wants to pass off the evidence but knows he’s being watched and can’t trust anyone. And who would believe him?

With help from the neurotic genius “Creator” of pop travel and a beautiful Southern charmer, Cooper must expose the deadly glitch and shut it down or die trying. No problem.

Tara Tyler has had a hand at everything from waitressing to rocket engineering. After living up and down the Eastern US, she now writes and teaches math in Ohio with her three active boys and Coach Husband. Currently, she has two series, The Cooper Chronicles (techno-thriller detective capers) and Beast World (MG fantasy) She's an adventure writer who believes every good story should have a moral, and a few laughs!

I never really thought about "signage" before! Thanks for sharing! :)

ha, signage, I love it! I've started thinking up catch phrases for my book--it's so hard!

It's one of those small details that's good to have ready for the day of a signing - and I think Tara does those details excellently!

Tyrean Martinson said...

It is hard!

I never thought about the signing thing, but considering how slow witted I am, that is a super idea! Yay to the awards and congrats to the book! I love the cover!

Thanks, Tara - I'll use some of those. Usually my mind goes blank and I just write 'reach for the stars.'
I'm participating in River's game for the Faire this year.
Have a great Fourth - God Bless America!

I usually write "Enjoy the adventure" or "Enjoy the mystery", depending on which book it is. These were nice alternatives.

Tyrean, I love your signage too! and the extra ones in the comments - good stuff!
Have a great break!

Great guest post, Tara! I've been trying to come up with something to write for book signings because I know I'll go blank if I'm put on the spot. Thanks for some great ideas to work with.
Tyrean, enjoy your summer break and I hope you get lots done!

I'm loving Tara's new cover! Yay for your writing progress and for the awards and hosting the Faire event! I hope you have a great time this summer. Thanks for letting me know you need a break from CTST. I'll remove you from the list and as soon as you're ready, put you back on again - 'cause we're really going to miss you. :(

What a great new cover. I sign very boringly - I should work on that! Enjoy your blogging break :-)

thanks some more you guys! coming up with signage is also a fun thing to do when you are stuck on your MS or editing... gets your gears moving! looking forward to your return, tyrean, thanks again!

That looks great, Tara! :D

I also get very nervous at signings. I'm always afraid I'll screw up the spelling of someone's name or make an ink blob. Loved your signing messages.

Great topic! For my first book, I wrote, "Follow your dreams!" because it was about characters who were following their dreams. I haven't come up with something for my second, so I signed those with some generic slogan. ("Happy Reading," maybe?) I like your ideas!

Fantastic post! I love those quotes. Very ingenious. I'm going to second Shelley. Love "Follow your dreams", but I also love "Be YOU" or "Believe". :)

Tara is a wonderful guest! :)

I've never worked on my signage because 1) I'm unlikely to ever meet someone who'd like me to sign my own book, since I'm in South Africa and 2) My handwriting sucks so bad that I doubt people would be able to decipher what I wrote. ;-)

Tyrean Martinson said...

Misha - Some day . . . when I get to travel the world like I originally intended to do at 18, I might just ask for a signature. :)

Nice!
